The Collaboratory features two computer labs connected by a printer room. The
two labs can be used concurrently for larger groups, or can be accessed independently
for individual events.
What is a "Pod?"
pod /pod/ n. 1 the vessel
that contains the seeds of a plant.
The "pod" is a self-contained, interactive group,
designed to foster collaborative, cross-disciplinary discussion and research.
The furniture in the Collaboratory is a unique design, selected
specifically for the Collaboratory, that allows for the monitor, keyboard
and mouse to be stowed away under the tabletop resulting in desk space that
is not cluttered by a tabletop monitor. The screens are mounted on a hydraulic
arm that can be raised and lowered, and swiveled 360°.
This design was chosen for its versatility, allowing the room
to be configured for different uses. For example, all of the screens can be
hidden away to create a conference room layout, or, one screen at each “pod”
can be utilized to focus attention. The design also allows for easy collaboration
among smaller groups.
